This home was suffering from algae and lichen growth. There are three major types of growth when it comes to roofs which are lichen, moss, and algae. Usually when there is moss and algae present its safe to assume that there is a leak already present in the roof and the moss and algae started growing as a result, but lichen is usually the one out of the three to cause a leak due to the way the roots grow. They tend to grow deep into the shingles and penetrate the decking layer. These roots give water a path to follow that leads straight into your attic and your home.
Due to the severity of the leak, a roof replacement was needed, so that is exactly what we did. First, we ripped up the old shingles and inspected the decking layer below. There were a few sheets that were rotting from the leaks and these needed to be replaced but the rest of the decking layer was in good condition, because of this we were able to save the customer money by using the existing decking layer.
Once the rotted sheets were replaced we laid down we moved on to installing the decking tape, Sealeron Ice and Water, and a synthetic underlayment. These three layers add extra protection to the roof and they also insulate the roof increasing the energy efficiency of the home.
Finally, we can install the shingles and this customer decided on our IKO Dyansty Castle Gray Shingles. Whenever we install shingles we start at the bottom edge to make sure that they are layered properly and that water is redirected properly. Now that the shingles are installed this customer can be certain that their home will be safe and sound all year round.
For this home, our team did a full roof replacement. There were multiple areas with moss and algae growth. We started by ripping up the old shingles in order to get a closer look at the decking layer below. After another look, we needed to replace a fair amount of sheets due to rot. The damage spread to the rafters so we repaired those too. Once the new plywood sheets were in we could move on to sealing the roof.
To do this we always use three different types of materials. First, we use decking tape to seal the plywood seams, we then lay down Sealeron Ice and Water around any eves, rakes, overhangs, valleys, and any 90-degree angle. Finally, we install a synthetic underlayment over any uncovered plywood.
Lastly, we install the shingles and flashings, when installing the shingles we always start at the bottommost edge and work our way up and across the roof. As we work we install flashings around all the openings in the roof like chimneys and vents. We also install flashings anywhere the shingles meet the siding to ensure there are no leaks.
Once the roof is complete we clean up and make sure the customer is 100% satisfied with everything and by the end of the day, we have another happy and safe customer who now has a brand new roof that will last them a lifetime.
Our team replaced this roof in Shelton due to a leak, rotting decking layer, visible damage to the shingles and there was algae growing all over. These reasons were more than enough to warrant replacing the roof.
The first step to this replacement was ripping up the old shingle and further inspecting the decking layer to see if it needed to be replaced or repaired. Most of the sheets had some sort of rot or mold so we ended up replacing almost all of them.
Next, we move on to the sealing layer, this layer consists of strip tape, Sealeron Ice and Water, and a synthetic underlayment. These three materials work together to fortify the decking layer and properly seal the roof.
Lastly, we move on to the flashing and shingles. The flashings wrap around any openings like chimneys and they also seal anywhere shingles meet the siding. When installing the shingles we always start at the bottom-most edge and work our way up and across the roof. We do this to ensure that the shingles are layered properly and effectively direct water off the roof.
In one short day, this homeowner received a brand new roof that is guaranteed to not only keep them safe and dry but also last for 50 years.
This home in Shelton, CT was experiencing major leaks and water damage due to damaged shingles. When they called in asking for an emergency repair we sent out one of our service technicians to temporarily tarp the exposed area until we had an available crew.
Once the crew showed up they got to work on the replacement and started by ripping up the old shingles. Due to the leaks, most of the plywood decking layer was rotted and moldy requiring most of the wood to be replaced.
Now that this was done, we laid down strip tape, Sealeron Ice and Water, and synthetic underlayment. These three materials form a strong, waterproof yet breathable layer on the home. This layer also acts as insulation creating a more energy-efficient home.
Lastly, we install the shingles and flashings. This customer decided on our IKO Dynasty Frostone Gray Shingles. These shingles popped way more than the original shingles beautifying the home and taking it to the next level.
For this job, we did a full roof replacement, which consisted of fully removing and replacing all existing shingles and the existing decking layer.
The first step to this replacement was to rip up all the old shingles and decking layers. The tongue and groove decking layer was in decent shape but because the style was outdated the homeowner opted to replace it with plywood.
Next, we installed the sealing layer which consists of three different materials that work together to form a strong, waterproof, and breathable layer that protects the decking layer.
Finally, we installed the shingles and this homeowner decided on our IKO Dynasty Atlantic Blue Shingles. By the end of the day, this homeowner had a brand new roof that perfectly matched the rest of the home.
