New IKO Dynasty Frostone Gray Shingles
This home needed a full roof replacement due to a multitude of issues. To start the chimney was not flashed correctly causing water to leak into the home. On top of this, the chimney did not have a cricket therefore water was able to sit instead of being directed off the roof. Next, the shingles were starting to fail due to poor installation causing half the decking layer to start rotting. These were just a few of the problems on this roof.
To kick off this roof replacement project we removed the old shingles and inspected the decking layer below. We knew already that we needed to replace most of the decking layer due to rot so we made sure to bring plenty of plywood. We also built up a cricket behind the chimney to direct water off the roof. Next, we started on our underlayments. Our Sealeron Ice and Water is the first to go down and this covers all the eaves, headwalls, valleys, and around any penetrations. Next, we tape all the seams on the roof with deck tape, and lastly, we lay down a synthetic underlayment.
Now the roof is ready for shingles, this customer decided on our IKO Dynasty Biscayne Shingles. When installing the shingles we always start at the bottom-most corner and work our way up and across to ensure that the shingles are layered properly. We also flash any penetrations in the roof with the corresponding material.
By the end of the day this home had a brand new roof that the customer loved and will keep them safe and dry for many years to come.
This home’s roof was leaking causing damage to the attic so a new roof was definitely in store.
The first step to the full roof replacement was to strip the roof down to the decking layer and then decide whether to replace some or all of the decking layer. Due to the decking layer being wood lats, it is better to keep them installed and plywood over them for more structural rigidity, but here some of the lats were starting to rot so we replaced those pieces first and then laid all new plywood over the existing wood.
Next, we installed our underlayments, which consist of 3 different layers to seal and protect the decking layer. First, we install our Sealeron Ice and Water around all the eaves, valleys, walls, and around any penetrations. Next is the deck tape, which is laid down over all the plywood and metal seams. Lastly, we install our synthetic underlayment, and this material is laid down anywhere the Ice and Water does not cover.
Now the roof is prepped for shingles, this customer decided on our IKO Dynasty Granite Black Shingles. These shingles beautify contrast the color of the home and add immense curb appeal. By the end of the day, this customer was extremely satisfied with the final product and was happy knowing that their home will be safe and dry for many years to come.
The Brown Roofing team headed out to Stratford, Connecticut to install a new gutter system. This customer can now rest assured that their new heavy duty gutters will be able preform correctly, keeping their home safe. This homeowner chose the color Dark Bronze for their new gutters.
