Before: Front View
Here's a look at what the front of Al's house looked like before the renovation. Click through to see the stunning transformation!

Before: Moss, Lichen, & Cement
A closer look at this area near the chimney shows years of moisture damage resulting in an overgrowth of moss and lichen. In addition, the flashing-thin barrier meant to prevent water from entering a junction-on the chimney is worn, old roof concrete. Let's get rid of all of this for good!

Preparing for the Teardown
Before the teardown begins, large, heavy-duty tarps are hung from the edges of the roof to ensure that the property is fully protected from falling debris, as well as make the cleanup process more efficient.

The Old Shingles Come Off
The crew gets to work tearing off all of the old shingles. Underneath the shingles is a layer of plywood called the sheathing. This is the structural foundation of the roof.

New Plywood Is Installed
As the structural foundation of the roof, the sheathing must be in tip-top shape. Any plywood found to be damaged, rotted, or moldy is removed and replaced with brand-new sturdy 1/2" CDX plywood. Here you can also see that we will be installing a new skylight for Al!

Seams Are Taped & Underlayment Is Installed
Once all of the new plywood is securely nailed into place, the seams of all of the plywood sheets are taped up with all-weather deck tape. After that, a layer of underlayment is installed over the entire surface. This thin, water-resistant membrane protects the sheathing from harsh elements like rain, snow, and ice.

The New Shingles Go On
Now it's time to install the new shingles! to perfectly complement his home, Al has selected the elegant shade of Shadow Brown from the IKO Dynasty collection. These premium-laminated, architectural shingles are proudly backed by our 50-year warranty.

New Flashing on the Chimney
Goodbye roof concrete! Now Al's chimney has a strong and sleek metal flashing, ensuring a watertight seal.

The Finished Look
With a couple of final touches, such as installing a ridge vent for proper airflow and a ridge cap for a seamless finish, Al's new roof is complete and built to last!
