Here's what Kilja's house looked like before the total makeover. Click through to check out what we did!

Before: Moss & Lichen Takeover
A closer look at Kilja's roof shows that moss and lichen had begun to grow rampant due to years of moisture damage on outdated shingles in a shady environment. Let's get rid of that for good!

The Teardown Begins
The crew kicks things off by stripping all of the old shingles off of the roof. Before the teardown began, the crew hung up large tarps around the edges of the roof to protect the property from falling debris as well as pave the way for a more efficient cleanup process.

The Sheathing Is Exposed
Once all of the old shingles are removed, what's left is a layer of plywood, which is called the sheathing. This is the structural foundation of the roof, and as such, needs to be in tip-top shape before the new shingles can go on.

New Plywood Is Installed
In order to ensure the strongest base, sturdy new 1/2" CDX plywood is installed over top of the old sheathing, precisely cut and nailed down securely.

Seams Are Taped & Underlayment Is Installed
Once the plywood is secured, all the seams are sealed up with heavy-duty all-weather deck tape for added protection. Then, a full layer of underlayment is rolled out across the roof: a water-resistant membrane that shields the sheathing from moisture, wind, snow, and other harsh elements.

Drip Edge Flashing Is Installed
With the underlayment fully in place, the crew installs drip edge flashing along all the roof's edges. This metal component helps direct water away from the fascia and into the gutters, preventing moisture from seeping beneath the roofing and causing damage.

New Shingles Are Installed
Now, we're ready to install the brand-new shingles! Kilja has chosen the highly popular Granite Black from our IKO Dynasty collection to give her roof the perfect finish.

Old Siding Comes Off
The new roof is all set, and now it's time to kick off the siding makeover! Step one: removing all of the old siding. Just like with roofing, the layer underneath is called the sheathing, and it must be in tip-top shape before we can install the new materials. Let's get to it!

New Sheathing for the Exterior
Once again, just like we did with the roof, sturdy new plywood is installed to form the fresh sheathing for the siding. Each seam is sealed up with deck tape to ensure everything is secure and weather-tight.

Insulation Is Installed
A layer of Polar Wrap WeatherAll XL insulation is installed over the entire surface. This polystyrene foam layer ensures thermal protection and also acts as a barrier from harsh elements.

New Siding Is Installed
Now it's time to install the siding! Brown Roofing proudly uses ProVia Willowbrook Super Polymer Vinyl Siding for their strength and curb appeal.

The Finished Look
With a few finishing touches and a thorough cleanup of the entire property, Kilja's entire home exterior makeover is complete, looking fantastic and built to last!
