The Old Roof

Prepping the Property
The first step the crew takes is setting up large tarps around the edges of the roof and across the yard to protect the homeowner's property from any falling debris. This also helps make the cleanup process quicker and more efficient.

The Old Shingles Come Off
The crew carefully strips off all of the old shingles, revealing the plywood layer underneath. This is called the sheathing, and it is the structural foundation of the roof.

New Plywood Is Installed
The crew installs fresh plywood to replace any old, rotted sections found during the inspection. In this case, new plywood was added around the chimney, along with a new cricket-a small triangular structure designed to redirect water away from the chimney and prevent potential water damage.

Seams Are Taped & Underlayment Is Installed
To prep for shingles, all plywood seams are sealed with heavy-duty deck tape. Then the crew installs a water-resistant underlayment across the surface to safeguard the roof against the full force of New England weather.

Drip Edge Is Installed
Once the underlayment is securely in place, the crew installs drip edge flashing along the roof's edges. This metal detail ensures water flows away from the fascia and into the gutters, preventing moisture from seeping under the roofing and causing potential damage.

New Shingles Are Installed
Next up, it's time for the new shingles! Angelo went with the cool Graphite Black from our IKO Dynasty collection to match his home's style beautifully.
