The Roof Before
Here is a look at Richard's roof before the transformation. Even from a distance, the wear and tear of this aging roof is visible. Click through to see the awesome transformation!

The Teardown Begins
The crew kicks things off by carefully stripping all of the old shingles off of the roof. Before they begin the teardown, large tarps are hung up around the edges of the roof to ensure that the property is protected from falling debris, as well as make sure the cleanup process is as efficient as possible.

Checking the Decking
Underneath the old shingles is a layer of plywood called the roof decking. This is the structural foundation of the roof. The crew closely examines the decking for any signs of damage, like rot or mold.

New Plywood Is Installed
Any areas found affected with damage are removed and replaced with brand-new sturdy CDX plywood. Each new sheet used is numbered for easy tracking. This way, the crew can accurately report back to the homeowner on exactly how many new sheets have been used.

Seams Are Taped & Underlayment Is Installed
With all of the new decking securely nailed into place, the crew adds another measure of reinforcement by taping up the seams of each sheet with heavy-duty deck tape. After that, underlayment is installed over the entire surface. This thin, waterproof membrane protects the decking from harsh natural elements like rain, wind, snow, and ice.

New Shingles Are Installed
Now it's time to install the new shingles! Richard has selected the stunning shade of Atlantic Blue from our premium IKO Dynasty collection to perfectly complement his home.

SBS Base Is Installed
This section of Richard's roof is low-sloping - aka, flat. As a result, current building codes do not allow asphalt shingles to be installed here. Instead, a specialized SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene) roof system is installed. The SBS system consists of two layers. This first layer is called the base.

Ridge Vent Is Installed
9A shingle vent is added along the ridges to help regulate airflow, giving hot, moist air a way to escape and reducing the risk of harmful condensation.

The Roof After
After a few finishing touches and a thorough cleanup of Richard's yard, his new roof is officially complete! Looking sleek and sophisticated, this blue house is sure to wow the neighborhood.

SBS Roof Is Finished
The top layer of the SBS roof is called the cap. Both layers are securely adhered using seam rollers and a blowtorch, guaranteeing a beautiful, polished finish.
