The Roof Before
Here's what Yezell's roof looked like before the replacement. Click through to see how we awesomely transformed it!

The Teardown Begins
The crew starts off by tearing off the old shingles. Before the teardown starts, large tarps are hung up around the edges of the roof and draped across the yard to ensure the homeowner's property is completely protected from falling debris. In addition, this makes the cleanup process more efficient.

The Sheathing Is Exposed
After all of the shingles are removed, what's left is called the roof sheathing. This is the structural foundation of the roof. Yezell's roof had a type of sheathing called "gapped sheathing." While useful for wood shake shingles that need extra room to 'breathe," this type of sheathing is not strong enough to hold the new architectural asphalt shingles we will be installing.

New Plywood Is Installed
In order to remedy that, sturdy new 1/2" CDX plywood is installed over top of the other old sheathing. This ensures a strong, solid base for the new shingles.

New Chimney Cricket Is Installed
Yezell's chimney needed a new cricket installed. A cricket is a small, peaked structure installed on a roof behind a chimney to divert water and debris away from the chimney and down the roof's slope, preventing water buildup and potential damage.

Seams Are Taped & Underlayment Is Installed
After all of the new sheathing is securely nailed into place, the seams of each sheet of plywood are taped up with all-weather deck tape as an added measure of reinforcement. Next, underlayment is adhered to the entire surface. This thin, waterproof membrane further protects the sheathing from harsh elements like rain, wind, snow, or ice.

New Shingles Are Installed
Now it's finally time to start installing the new shingles! For her new roof, Yezell has selected the gorgeous shade of Graphite Black from our IKO Dynasty "Cool" collection to dramatically enhance her home's curb appeal.

Ridge Vent & Cap Are Installed
With all of the new shingles on, the crew installs a ridge vent along the highest point of the roof. This vent ensures proper airflow by allowing hot, humid air to escape, preventing damaging condensation buildup in the attic. A ridge cap is secured on top of the ridge vent for a seamless finish.

The Roof After
After a few finishing touches, Yezell's roof is officially complete!

The Finished Look
Yezell's new roof is not only beautiful, but is built to stand strong for decades to come.
