The Roof Before
Here's a look at Xavier's roof before the replacement. As you can see, there is substantial moss and algae growth, indicating that the shingles are holding damaging moisture. Click through to see the awesome way we fixed that problem for good!

The Teardown Begins
The crew kicks things off by carefully stripping the old shingles off of the entire roof. Before that, large tarps are set up around the property to protect the homeowner's home and also make the cleanup process a bit more efficient.

Decking Is Examined
Once all of the shingles are removed, the wooden foundation underneath - called the roof decking - is exposed. As the structural core of the roof, the decking must be in tip-top shape. Any damaged, rotted, or moldy areas are found and promptly removed by our crew.

Decking Is Replaced
The crew replaces the removed sections with brand-new 1/2" CDX plywood. Each new sheet used is numbered so that the crew can easily keep track of them and report back to the homeowner exactly how many were used.

Seams Are Taped & Underlayment Is Installed
Once all of the new decking is nailed into place, all of the sheets' seams are sealed with all-weather deck tape for added durability. To further protect the decking, a layer of underlayment is applied across the entire surface, creating a waterproof barrier against rain, wind, and snow.

New Shingles Are Installed
With the underlayment fully in place, the crew is ready to start installing the new shingles. These shingles were uniquely selected by Xavier, and we're always happy to provide homeowners with the perfect choice to enhance the beauty of their home.

New Skylight Is Installed
Xavier also had 4 new high-quality VELUX skylights installed, replacing his old ones. Here, a crew member secures the skylight flashing - thin metal that keeps water from seeping into roof junctions - with strong caulk.

SBS Roof Base Is Installed
This section of Xavier's roof is low-sloping. In accordance with current building codes, a specialized SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene) roof is installed here instead of shingles. The first layer of the SBS, which is called the base, is much like underlayment, and serves as a protective barrier for the decking.

SBS Roof Cap Is Installed
The second layer of SBS, called the cap, is secured over the base, and that completes the low-sloping roof section.

Ridge Vent Is Installed
A shingle vent is placed along the ridges of the roof to promote optimal airflow. This vent allows hot, moist air that rises from inside the house to escape, preventing damaging moisture buildup. A ridge cap that matches the shingles is installed over the vent next, providing a seamless finish.

The Roof After
After adding a few final touches and giving everything a detailed check, Xavier's new roof is officially complete!
