The Old Roof
Here's a look at the front of Kenneth and Carol's house before their roof replacement. Click through to see the beautiful transformation!

The Teardown Begins
The crew gets to work carefully stripping off the old shingles, starting at the ridge of the roof and going down.

The Decking Is Examined
Underneath the shingles is a layer of wood called the roof decking. The roof decking is the structural foundation of the roof, and must be in tip-top shape. The crew closely examines the decking for any signs of rot, decay, or mold, and promptly removes any affected pieces.

New Plywood Is Installed
Any damaged sections are replaced with brand-new, sturdy CDX plywood. Each piece is carefully measured, precisely cut to fit seamlessly into place, and securely nailed down.

New Chimney Cricket Is Installed
The crew installs a brand-new chimney cricket, a vital structure designed to divert rainwater away from the chimney. This prevents water from continuously pounding against the most vulnerable side, reducing the risk of leaks and water damage.

New Underlayment Is Installed
With all of the new decking in place, the crew starts installing the underlayment. This is a thin, water-resistant material that protects the decking from harsh elements like wind, rain, and snow. A specialized type of underlayment called Ice & Water Shield is installed at the roof's most vulnerable areas, like the edges of the roof and in the valleys.

New Shingles Go On
Next, it's time to install the new shingles. Brown Roofing proudly uses IKO Dynasty premium-laminated shingles for all of their roofs backed by a 50-year warranty. These shingles come in a wide variety of colors, and Kenneth and Carol have selected the sleek and sophisticated shade of Summit Gray for their new roof.

The Chimney Is Flashed
Once the shingles are securely installed over the new chimney cricket, the crew applies a thin metal flashing along the chimney's side. This flashing is then sealed with high-quality caulk to provide an extra layer of protection against water infiltration.

Ridge Vent & Cap Are Installed
A vent is installed at each ridge of the roof. This vent ensures proper air circulation by allowing hot, moist air that rises from inside of the house a way to escape, preventing damaging condensation buildup. A ridge cap is installed on top of the vent to ensure a seamless finish.

The Roof Is Complete
After those couple of final touches, Kenneth and Carol's new roof is finally complete!
