The Old Roof
Here's a "before" photo of Patricia's roof. Click through to see the stunning transformation!

Before: Mismatched and Algaefied
A closer look at the old roof shows not only mismatched shingles from a roof repair, but also quite a bit of green and black roof algae growth. Let's get rid of these issues once and for all!

The Teardown Begins
The crew starts things off by tearing off the old shingles. Before they begin this step, large tarps are carefully spread across the lawn and over the house, ensuring that no falling debris damages the property. These tarps also make cleanup a simpler process.

The Decking Is Exposed & Examined
Underneath the shingles is a layer of plywood, known as the roof decking. This is the structural core of the roof, and its health is essential. After all of the old shingles come off, the crew carefully inspects the decking for any signs of mold, rot, or other decay.

New Plywood Is Installed
Any rotted and damaged areas of the decking are removed and replaced with brand-new sturdy CDX plywood, ensuring a strong foundation for the new roof.

New Underlayment Is Installed
With all of the new decking in place, a layer of underlayment is installed over the entire surface. This protective material shields the decking from harsh elements such as wind, rain, snow, and ice.

New Shingles Are Installed
Next, it's time to start installing the new IKO Dynasty premium-laminated shingles. These shingles are a Brown Roofing favorite, known for their durability and beauty. Patricia has selected the sleek and sophisticated color of Granite Black for her new roof.

Ridge Vent Is Installed
A ridge vent is installed along the highest point of the roof. This vent ensures proper roof aeration by allowing hot, humid air rising from the house a means to escape - preventing damaging condensation buildup.

New Pipe Flashing Is Installed
New flashing is secured to all pipe vents on the roof. This thick, strong material is called a pipe boot, and it prevents water from seeping through vulnerable junctions.

The Roof Is Complete
After a couple final touches, like installing flashing along the side of the chimney and installing a ridge cap over the ridge vent to ensure a seamless look, Patricia's new roof is finished!
