Roof Replacement Photo Album: Squirrel-Proof Roof Renovation in Cornwall, CT

Project Manager Noel and his crew headed to Cornwall to tackle Kenneth's much-needed roof replacement. Years of shade from the surrounding forest had taken their toll, with moisture fueling moss, algae growth, and heavy staining. To make matters worse, red squirrels had made themselves at home - rent-free. Kenneth worked with Brown Roofing sales specialist John to design the perfect plan, and Noel’s team brought it to life. They installed strong CDX plywood decking that no squirrel could chew through, topped with premium-quality IKO Dynasty shingles. Now, Kenneth's roof is not only beautiful but built to withstand the elements, staying moss-free and sturdy for years to come. Brown Won't Let You Down!

Kenneth's Old Roof

The discoloration of Kenneth's old roof was so intense it was almost like some sort of psychedelic painting. Anyway, it's time for an upgrade. Click through to see the transformation!

Old Shingles Are Removed

The crew kicks things off by removing the old shingles. This reveals the plywood layer underneath, which is called the roof decking, and it is the core structure of the roof. The crew carefully inspects the decking for rot, decay, mold, or red squirrels.

Plywood Is Replaced

All damaged sections of the decking are removed, squirrels are evicted, and fresh plywood is precisely cut and secured into place.

Underlayment Is Installed

With the decking restored, the crew installs the underlayment. This is a thin, water-resistant barrier that shields the decking from rain, snow, ice, and anything else that could cause potential water damage.

Low-Sloping Roof Installed

This low-sloping section of Kenneth's roof requires a specialized approach. Per building codes, the crew installs a polyester membrane. The first layer of Polyglass Elastoflex, known as the base, acts as the underlayment for this area.

Cap & New Shingles Installed

With the underlayment fully in place, the crew installs the top layer of Polyglass Elastoflex, known as the cap, over the low-sloping section. As for the rest of the roof, it's time for new shingles! These IKO Dynasty premium-laminated shingles, known for their top-tier quality, are being installed in Kenneth's chosen color - and a customer favorite - Granite Black.

The Finished Product

After a few final touches - like installing ridge vents and flashing - Kenneth's roof is complete, and those psychedelic stains are officially a thing of the past!
