Kerry's Old Roof
Kerry's old roof was definitely showing its age, with staining, algae, and lichen growth visible even from a distance. Click through to see the incredible transformation!

Before: Puddle Problem
Not only were the shingles covered in algae, but the flat section of Kerry's old roof was also accumulating puddles and standing water. This definitely needed attention - and we're here to fix it!

Protecting the Property
Before starting the roof renovation, the crew takes the time to carefully set up heavy-duty tarps and plywood sheets to protect the house and landscape from debris. This ensures both safety during the work and an easier cleanup afterward.

The Teardown Begins
Once all the tarps are securely in place, the crew begins stripping off all of the old shingles. Out with the old, and in with the new!

The Roof Decking
Underneath the shingles is a layer of plywood known as the roof decking. The roof decking serves as the core structure of the roof. After all of the shingles are off, the crew will closely examine the decking for any signs of rot, mold, or other damage.

Bad Plywood Replaced
As you can see, a significant portion of the decking needed to be replaced. The crew carefully cuts and fits each piece to ensure a perfect fit, then securely nails them to the rafters.

Underlayment Applied
Once the decking is in place, the crew begins installing the underlayment. This thin synthetic felt barrier shields the decking from rain, snow, and ice.

Flat Roof Replaced
Meanwhile, these crew members focus on replacing the flat roof section of Kerry's home. As required by building codes, a specialized synthetic rubber membrane is applied instead of shingles. The underlayment for this section is known as the base layer.

New Shingles Installed
Once the decking is fully covered in underlayment, it's time to install the new shingles! Brown Roofing's go-to for durability and style is the IKO Dynasty, a premium-laminated asphalt shingle. Kerry chose the classic, sleek Granite Black, our most popular color, to bring her roof's new look to life.

Flat Roof Finished
As the shingles are being installed, the flat roof section is also completed with a final layer of synthetic rubber known as the cap.

Ridge Vent Installed
At the roof's ridges, a vent is installed to promote proper airflow. This vent allows humid air from inside the house to escape, preventing condensation buildup and helping to maintain a dry, healthy attic space.

Chimney Is Flashed
New flashing is installed around the chimney where it meets the roof. This thin metal barrier helps prevent water from seeping through joints and crevices, ensuring the roof stays dry and secure.

The Finished Product
After a few final touches, like installing shingles over the ridge vents and adding flashing around the pipe vents, Kerry's new roof is complete and ready to protect her home for years to come!
