Before: Panels Removed
With the panels removed, it's clear the roof has seen better days, with signs of wear and moss growth - proof of moisture buildup. Let's get started on the new one!
Old Shingles Are Stripped
The crew starts off by stripping the old shingles off. This exposes the layer of plywood underneath which is called the roof decking. The decking is the structural foundation of the roof.
Bad Plywood Is Removed
The roof decking needs to be flawless, so our crew thoroughly inspects every plywood sheet for signs of rot or damage. Any compromised wood is swiftly removed and replaced.
Underlayment Is Applied
After all of the new plywood is securely in place and the decking is solid, the crew starts installing the underlayment. The underlayment is a thin water-resistant barrier that protects the decking from rain, snow, or ice.
New Shingles Are Installed
With the decking fully covered in underlayment, it's time to install the new shingles! These IKO Dynasty premium-laminated shingles, in Mary's spectacular choice of Atlantic Blue, offer superior quality and lasting protection.
Ridge Vent Is Installed
A vent is installed at the ridge of the roof. This vent ensures that humid air inside of the house can freely escape, eliminating damaging condensation buildup.
The Finished Product
After a few finishing touches - shingles over the ridge vent, copper flashing around the chimney, and secure pipe vent boots - Mary's new roof is complete and looking fantastic!
