Before: Back View
In this before image of the back of Joe's house, you can see that the roof is experiencing discoloration, white lichen spots, and a slightly wavy appearance. These are all clear indicators of water damage.

Removing the Old Shingles
The crew begins the process by removing the old shingles. This reveals the plywood layer underneath, called the roof decking. The roof decking is the structural foundation of the roof and must be examined closely for any signs of rot or decay.

Underlayment Is Applied
If the plywood is found to be in good condition, the crew will move on to the next step: underlayment. This thin, water-resistant barrier protects the decking from rain, snow, ice, and any other elements that could cause water damage. Once the decking on the west side of the house is patched with new plywood, custom-cut to fit the original spaces, it will also be covered with underlayment.

New Shingles Are Installed
Once the decking is fully covered in underlayment, the crew begins installing the new IKO Dynasty premium-laminated shingles. These heavyweight shingles come in a range of colors, and Joe has chosen the sleek shade of Shadow Brown for his new roof.

Ridge Vent Is Installed
The crew installs a ridge vent at the peak of the roof to ensure proper ventilation. This vent allows hot, humid air to escape, preventing condensation buildup that could lead to future water damage.

Chimney Is Flashed
New flashing is installed along the side of the chimney. Made of thin, waterproof material - often metal, the flashing prevents water from entering the roof through joints and other vulnerable areas.
