Before: Moss & Lichen
A clear sign of excessive moisture buildup in shingles is the presence of green moss and white lichen spots. These invasive plants trap moisture, which causes the shingles to break down over time.

Old Shingles Removed
The crew begins by carefully stripping off the old shingles. This reveals the plywood underneath, which is commonly referred to as the roof sheathing.

Bad Plywood Replaced
As the roof's structural foundation, the sheathing must be in excellent condition. Each plywood sheet is carefully inspected for signs of rot or mold, and any damaged sections are removed and replaced with fresh plywood.

Seams Taped & Underlayment Placed
After all of the new plywood is nailed into place, the seams of each sheet are further reinforced with heavy-duty Sealoron XT deck tape. Next, a layer of underlayment is applied to the entire sheathing. This is a thin, waterproof barrier that protects the sheathing from rain, snow, and ice.

New Shingles Installed
Once the underlayment is in place, it's time to install the new shingles. These are IKO Dynasty premium laminate shingles, which Brown Roofing exclusively uses for their superior quality. Gary and Kathy have chosen our most popular color, Granite Black, to complement their home.
