Before, Carol's roof had significant moss and algae growth. The accumulation of moisture and debris created the perfect environment for these invasive plants to thrive.
Before: Rough Chimney
In addition, Carol's chimney was in poor condition, with worn and weathered bricks from years of harsh weather as well as unsightly roof cement caked along the sides.
Shingles Are Stripped
The crew starts by completely removing all the old shingles, exposing the plywood layer beneath. This layer is called the roof decking.
Decking Is Examined
As the roof's structural foundation, the decking must be in excellent condition. The crew carefully inspects every section for damage, such as rot or mold, and replaces any affected pieces.
Seams Are Sealed & Underlayment Is Laid
Once any damaged sections are replaced, the crew reinforces the decking by sealing the seams with heavy-duty Sealoron XT deck tape. Then, they cover the entire surface with a layer of underlayment - a thin, waterproof synthetic felt that safeguards the decking from rain, snow, and ice.
Time For New Shingles
Once the underlayment is fully in place, the crew begins installing the new shingles. These are IKO Dynasty heavyweight shingles, premium laminated for durability, and shown here in Carol's selected color, Driftshake.
Ridge Vent Is Installed
The crew installs a ridge vent at the roof's peak. This vent helps prevent the buildup of hot, humid air and moisture inside the house by allowing it to escape.
New Chimney with Flashing
Our expert masons have built a brand-new chimney for Carol's house. Instead of the bulky roof cement, sleek metal flashing is installed around the base of the chimney to effectively prevent water from entering the joints and crevices.
The Finished Product
With that final touch, the roof is fully completed, offering Carol a durable, weather-resistant solution that enhances both the protection and appearance of her home for years to come!
