Before: Front View
Parnel's roof exhibited typical signs of aging for a standard-quality roof, including noticeable shingle discoloration.

Before: Lichen, Moss, Lifting
A closer look reveals moss and lichen growth, along with some shingles starting to lift.

The Teardown Starts
The crew starts the roof replacement by tearing off the old shingles, revealing the plywood beneath, known as the roof decking. This is the structural foundation of the roof. Once the shingles are removed, they carefully inspect the decking for any signs of rot, decay, or mold, replacing any compromised plywood as needed.

The Decking Is Replaced
All damaged plywood is removed and replaced with fresh, new sheets. To stay organized, the crew numbers each new sheet for easy tracking.

Seams Are Taped & Underlayment Is Laid
Once the new plywood is securely in place, the crew reinforces the seams with heavy-duty deck tape for added durability. Next, they cover the entire roof with a protective underlayment. This is a thin, waterproof barrier designed to shield the decking from rain, snow, and ice.

New Shingles Are Put On
With the underlayment in place, the crew begins installing the new shingles. We use premium IKO Dynasty asphalt shingles, and Parnel chose the sleek Summit Gray color. These shingles provide not only superior protection but also superior style.

Ridge Vent Installed
Once all the shingles are in place, the crew installs a ridge vent at the peak of the roof. This vent promotes proper airflow, allowing hot, humid air from the attic to escape and preventing moisture buildup.

The Finished Product
Flashing - thin, water-resistant material that blocks water from seeping through vulnerable areas on the roof - is installed around the roof's pipe vents and at the base of the chimney. With that, the roof is complete!
