Before: Front Aerial View
The old roof was clearly showing its age, with worn, weathered shingles and noticeable discoloration that was evident from afar.

Before: Algae & Lichen
A closer inspection reveals the water damage in full view, with shingles beginning to buckle and covered in large patches of white lichen and dark brown streaks of algae.

Two Layers of Shingles Are Removed
The crew starts the roof removal by tearing off the shingles. There is a double layer of shingles on this house, a common cost-saving tactic meant to extend the roof's lifespan. However, this often backfires in the long run, as it conceals underlying issues that should be addressed.

Decking Is Replaced
Once both layers of shingles are stripped away, the plywood beneath, known as the roof decking, is exposed. This plywood serves as the structural foundation of the roof. The crew carefully inspects it for any signs of rot, decay, or mold. Any damaged sections are replaced with fresh plywood sheets, precisely cut and installed. To ensure everything stays organized, each new sheet is numbered.

Taped Seams & Protective Underlayment Added
Once the new decking is securely in place, the crew seals the seams of each plywood sheet with Sealoron XT deck tape, adding an extra layer of durability and longevity. Next, they apply a layer of underlayment: a thin, water-resistant barrier designed to protect the decking from rain, snow, and ice.

New Shingles Go On
Finally, the crew begins installing the new shingles. These premium laminated IKO Dynasty shingles offer top-notch protection. Kay selected the sleek Summit Gray color to complement her house.

The Finished Look
Once the shingles are in place and the final touches - such as installing a ridge vent, repairing the chimneys, and adding protective flashing to the pipes - are completed, this beautiful new roof is complete!
