Roof Before Replacement
Homeowners Ernest and Helen (not pictured) look forward to having their roof replaced by Brown Roofing.

Old Shingles Are Removed
As the crew begins removing the old shingles, you can see extensive moss growth has spread across the roof, accompanied by noticeable discoloration caused by prolonged moisture buildup.

Stripped Down To Sheathing
The crew removes the old shingles until the entire roof is stripped down to plywood, which is called the roof sheathing. The sheathing is the structural framework of the roof, and it is carefully inspected for any signs of rot or mold.

Underlayment Is Applied
Any sections of sheathing showing signs of rot are carefully removed and precisely replaced. The crew then reinforces the plywood by sealing the seams with deck tape before applying a full layer of underlayment. This thin, waterproof barrier provides essential protection against rain, snow, and ice.

Underlayment Done & Shingles Ready
Once the underlayment is fully in place, the crew installs a metal trim called the drip edge along the roof's perimeter for added protection. With this step complete, they bring up the shingles and get ready for installation.

Shingles Installed & Ridge Vent On
With all the heavyweight IKO Dynasty shingles in place, the crew installs a ridge vent along the peak of the roof. This vent promotes airflow, allowing hot, humid air from the house to escape and preventing moisture buildup. To complete the installation, matching hip and ridge shingles - shown here in Ernest and Helen's color choice, the popular Granite Black - are placed over the ridge vent, ensuring a seamless look.

The Roof Is Complete
With that, the new roof is complete. Built with high-quality materials, it is now resistant to water damage and will remain free from stains and moss growth for years to come!
