Before: Moss Overgrowth
Anthony and Claudia's roof had significant moss overgrowth. Moss thrives on roofs when moisture, shade, and organic debris are present. In this case, frequent exposure to the elements, shade from nearby trees, and the roof's old, weathered materials all contributed to the problem.

The Teardown Begins
The first step in installing a new roof is to remove the old one. The crew begins by stripping away the old shingles, exposing the plywood beneath. This plywood, known as the roof decking, acts as the structural foundation of the roof.

Plywood Is Removed
After removing the shingles, the crew inspects the plywood and removes any parts that show signs of rot, decay, or mold.

Plywood Is Replaced
The damaged plywood is replaced with fresh, new plywood, ensuring a sturdy and improved decking for the new roof.

Underlayment Is Applied
Once the decking is in place, the crew covers it with underlayment - a thin, waterproof barrier that protects against water, ice, and snow. This layer helps prevent moisture from seeping into the decking, reducing the risk of damp conditions that could promote moss growth.

New Shingles Are Installed
With the underlayment fully in place, the crew begins installing the shingles. They use heavyweight IKO Dynasty shingles in Graphite Black, the homeowners' chosen color and a popular choice for many.

Ridge Vent
After all the shingles are installed, a ridge vent is installed along the roof's peak. This provides an outlet for hot air rising from the house, which helps regulate temperature and prevent moisture buildup.

Copper Flashing Is Added to Chimney
Sleek copper flashing is installed around the chimney. This thin, waterproof material helps prevent water from seeping into the structure by directing it away from joints and other vulnerable areas. Proper flashing protects against leaks, mold, and structural damage.

The Finished Product
Anthony and Claudia's new roof is finally complete! Along with the brand-new roofing and copper flashing around each chimney, they now have a brand-new gutter system and pipe boots on all their vents. Their upgraded roof is built to resist moss growth and provide lasting protection for years to come.
