Roof Before Renovation
Patrick's old roof was a little rough around the edges, with lifted shingles and some visible wear along the edges of the house.
Shingles Are Removed
The first step in the roof renovation process is removing the old shingles. This reveals the plywood beneath, known as the roof decking. This is the structural base of the roof.
Bad Plywood Is Found & Removed
Any plywood showing signs of decay, rot, or mold is removed from the decking and replaced with new plywood, which is properly fitted and installed by the crew.
Plywood Is Replaced & Underlayment Is Applied
Once the damaged plywood is replaced, the crew seals all seams with deck tape to ensure the decking is as durable as possible. Next, they apply Ice & Water Shield across the entire roof, providing a strong layer of protection against water damage.
New Skylight Is Installed
A new VELUX skylight is installed, providing a fresh upgrade in place of the old one.
New Shingles Are Installed
Once the Ice & Water Shield is fully applied, the crew begins installing the shingles in a staircase pattern. This ensures both a visually appealing finish and a well-structured, uniform roof.
Ridge Vent Is Installed
Once all the shingles are in place, the crew installs a ridge vent along the peak of the roof. This promotes proper ventilation by allowing warm, humid air to escape, preventing moisture buildup, and protecting the roof's integrity. The ridge vent works in conjunction with the soffit vent - the small square vent on the side - to allow circular airflow.
Completed Roof Results
The new roof is now complete, featuring high-quality IKO Dynasty laminate performance shingles in Driftshake, a newly installed skylight, and a reinforced, structurally sound decking. Joseph is now the proud owner of a durable, long-lasting roof that will keep his home protected for years to come!
