Low Pitch Roof Before Replacement
The International Building Code (IBC) currently does not allow the installation of asphalt shingles on a roof with a pitch, or slope, less than a 2:12 - like the section of the homeowner's roof pictured here. Instead, a special flat roof is to be installed. The homeowner complained of a leakage, which is common in low-pitch roofs that still have shingles installed.

Shingles Are Removed
The crew begins the process by removing the shingles from the roof, which leaves the plywood sheathing exposed.

Sheathing Is Completely Removed
Project Manager Austin and his crew examined the plywood and found it to be unsuitable as water damage had caused all of it to rot and grow mold. After consulting with the homeowner, the crew proceeded to remove all of the previous plywood and prepared to completely replace the decking.

The New Plywood Is Installed
The crew installs the new plywood. Each sheet is fit into place in a specific pattern to provide the most structural integrity.

Special Underlayment Is Applied
After all of the plywood is secured in place, the team proceeds to the next step: Installing an underlayment of Polyglass Elastoflex. This is a strong, water-resistant membrane made of polyester. This will keep the plywood underneath from experiencing future water damage or leakage.

The Final Layer Is Applied
A final solid black layer of Polyglass Elastoflex, called the cap, is applied on top of the underlayment.

The Final Touches
The crew achieves a smooth application with seam rollers, heat guns, and expert precision. The edges of the polyester are trimmed to perfectly fit the roof, and Perma-Boot flashing is fitted over each pipe to ensure that water is prevented from entering through joints.
