Algae and broken shingles causing leaks in the roof
This roof had a considerable amount of algae growing on it which lead to shingle deterioration. This roof also had many damaged and folded shingles. These damaged shingles create gaps for water to seep through and this water can create the perfect environment for mold to grow. It can also cause the wooden rafters and decking layer to rot compromising the roof.
Demo Time
Demolition went quickly, the only obstacle we ran into was on the left side. We had to be careful due to how close the houses were to one another. We stripped the roof down to the decking layer and from here we decided if we needed to replace the plywood layer.
Ice and water, Underlayment, and Decking Tape
Here you can see all three of the materials that we use to seal the roof. To start the brown material is called the underlayment this covers a majority of the roof and this seals the decking layer off and acts as another layer of insulation. The white material is the Ice and Water this is used to seal all the areas that are the most vulnerable such as the edges, valleys, and eaves. The last thing we use is the blue tape that seals all the seams created by the plywood and this seals the roof once again in case water gets through both the shingles and underlayment.
Shingle installation
This homeowner decided on our IKO Dynasty Castle Gray Shingles which really matched the siding and the style of the home. We install all of our shingles starting from bottom to top to ensure that they are layered properly and effectively route water off the roof and into the gutters. As we work our way up the roof we install flashings around all the openings like vents and chimneys. The flashing helps to keep water away from seams where the shingles aren't layered.
Another complete job and another happy customer
Within a day and a half, we repaired and replaced the roof of this three-story home. It was wonderful working with this homeowner. The roof came out stunning as always and we can go home knowing that another one of our roofs is keeping another family dry and safe.
