The Roof Before
Here's the area of Edward's roof that we will be transforming. Click through to see the fantastic renovation!

The Teardown Begins
The crew kicks things off by stripping the old shingles off of the roof. This reveals the layer of plywood underneath, which is called the sheathing. The sheathing is the structural foundation of the roof.

Bad Plywood Is Removed
As the structural foundation of the roof, the sheathing needs to be free of damage, such as rot or mold, before the new roof can be installed. Any sections found damaged-such as this section here-need to be completely removed.

New Plywood Is Installed
Sturdy new CDX plywood replaces the removed sections. Each new sheet used is numbered so that the crew can accurately report back to the homeowner exactly how many sheets have been installed.

SBS Base Is Installed
It's time to start installing the new SBS roof! This layer, known as the base, is installed first. This is the roof's underlayment which thoroughly protects the sheathing underneath from harsh elements like wind, rain, snow, and ice.

New Shingles Are Installed
This section of Edward's roof was pitched enough to have new shingles installed. Strong shingles from our trusted IKO collection that most closely matched the color of Edward's current shingles were used, solidly nailed into place and creating a seamless finish.

SBS Cap & New Insulation Is Installed
The second layer of the SBS roofing system, known as the cap sheet, is securely adhered over the base layer, completing the flat roof section. The crew also installs new insulation along the side of the house where it meets the roof to help retain heat and prepare the area for new step flashing, which will protect against water intrusion.

New Flashing Is Installed
New flashing is also carefully installed around the sides of the chimney where it meets the roof as well as around the large roof pipe, ensuring a watertight seal and preventing moisture damage.

The Roof After
After a full cleanup and some finishing touches, Edward's roof repair and brand-new SBS roof is officially complete!
