Before: Northwest Face
Here's what Michael and Sarah's roof looked like from the northwest angle. Time to upgrade those three-tab shingles! Click through to see the transformation.

Before: Northeast Face
This view of the old roof from the northeast angle highlights a section in serious need of replacement. The white spots are lichen, and the dark streaks are algae-both invasive, moisture-loving growths that break down shingles over time. Time to give this roof the upgrade it deserves!

Preparing for the Teardown
Before the crew begins the teardown, large, heavy-duty tarps are secured to the edges of the roof as well as along the yard to ensure that the homeowner's property is protected as well as make for a more efficient cleanup process afterward.

The Sheathing Is Examined
After all of the old shingles have been stripped off, what remains is the layer of plywood that was underneath, which is called the roof sheathing. This is the structural foundation of the roof. The crew will closely examine all parts of the sheathing for any damage, such as rot or mold.

New Plywood Is Installed
Any damaged sections are carefully removed and replaced with sturdy new CDX plywood, creating a strong base for the new roof. Each sheet is numbered for precise tracking, allowing the crew to accurately report the total number of replacements to the homeowner.

Seams Are Taped & Underlayment Is Installed
Next, the seams of all of the plywood sheets are taped up with all-weather deck tape as an added layer of reinforcement. Then, a thin layer of underlayment is installed over the entire surface. This water-resistant membrane further protects the sheathing from damaging elements like rain, wind, snow, and ice.

Drip Edge Flashing Is Installed
With all of the underlayment securely in place, the crew installs drip edge flashing around all edges of the roof. This thin metal is meant to direct water away from the fascia and into the gutters, preventing water from seeping under the roofing.

New Shingles Are Installed
Now it's time to install the new shingles! Michael and Sarah have chosen the stunning shade of Shadow Brown from our IKO Dynasty collection, adding both beauty and top-tier protection to their home.

After: Northwest Face
Flashing is secured around all openings of the roof to ensure a watertight seal, and a ridge vent is installed along the peaks to ensure proper airflow. After that, Michael and Sarah's new roof is officially complete!

After: Northeast Face
Goodbye lichen and algae, hello strength and beauty for years to come!
