Protecting the Property
In this snow-free shot, the roof damage is much more noticeable, with discoloration all over. Before the teardown begins, the crew lays down protective tarps and foam boards to keep the homeowner's property safe from falling debris and ensure a quick and easy cleanup.

Old Shingles Are Removed
The crew gets to work stripping off the old shingles. This reveals the layer of plywood underneath, which is called the roof sheathing.

New Plywood Is Installed
The health of the sheathing is essential to the roof, so any parts found with rot, decay, or damage of any kind are promptly removed and replaced with brand-new sturdy CDX plywood.

Seams Are Taped & Underlayment Is Installed
Once all of the new sheathing is nailed securely into place, the crew reinforces the surface by taping up all of the seams of the plywood sheets with heavy-duty all-weather deck tape. Next, a layer of underlayment is installed over the entire surface. This thin, waterproof material shields the sheathing from brutal elements like wind, rain, snow, or ice.

New Skylight Is Installed
Brand-new VELUX skylights are installed, replacing John's old skylights with a fresh and modern look.

New Shingles Go On
Next it's time to install the new IKO Dynasty shingles! These premium-laminated architectural shingles come in a variety of shades, and John has chosen the sleek Frostone Gray for his new roof.

Ridge Vent Is Installed
A shingle vent is installed along the ridges of the roof. This vent ensures proper airflow by allowing humid air that rises from inside of the house a way to escape, preventing damaging condensation buildup.

New Flashing for the Chimney
Thin metal flashing is installed around the sides of the chimney where it meets the roof. This barrier creates a watertight seal, preventing moisture from seeping through the junction.

The Roof After
After a few finishing touches like installing a ridge cap over the shingle vent to ensure a seamless finish and securing flashing around all roof pipes, John's new roof is complete and built to last!
