The Roof Before
Here's a look at Matthew's roof before the replacement. It's seen some better days! Click through to see how we transformed it.

Before: Lichen & Moss
This photo of the roof gives you a closer look at the significant lichen and moss growth, especially around the sides of the skylights. Let's get that cleaned up!

The Property Is Protected
Before the teardown begins, the crew makes sure to set up large tarps to thoroughly protect the property from falling debris. In addition, this also helps make cleanup more efficient.

The Old Shingles Come Off
The crew starts carefully stripping the old shingles off. This reveals the layer of plywood underneath, which is called the roof sheathing.

Sheathing Is Inspected
The roof sheathing is essentially the structural foundation of the entire roof, and it must be in tip-top shape before the crew can proceed. So, the experts closely examine all parts of the sheathing for signs of decay, rot, mold, or other damage - like this section here - and promptly remove those affected parts.

New Plywood Is Installed
Jeremy's roof had plank sheathing. Every removed plank is replaced by brand-new sturdy plywood, precisely cut to fit perfectly where the old piece was, and is securely nailed down to the rafters underneath.

Underlayment Is Installed
Once all of the sheathing is complete, underlayment is rolled out and installed over the entire surface. This thin, water-resistant layer protects the sheathing from harmful elements like wind, rain, snow, or ice.

New Skylight Is Installed
Jeremy's old, water-damaged skylights are replaced by sleek, modern new VELUX skylights.

The New Shingles Go On
Now it's time to install the new shingles! The shingles Brown Roofing stands by are IKO Dynasty premium-laminated, known for their durability and style. These shingles come in a variety of colors, and Matthew has selected the ever-popular shade of Granite Black for his new roof.

Ridge Vent Is Installed
A shingle vent is installed along the ridge of the roof. This vent ensures proper airflow by allowing hot, moist air that rises from the house a way to escape - eliminating damaging condensation buildup.

The Finished Product
After a few more finishing touches and a brand-new gutter system installed - Matthew's new roof is officially complete!
