Before: Front View
Here's a look at Candice's roof before the replacement. Today, we're replacing the roof on her garage and on her room addition in the back.

Before: Wear & Lichen
A closer look at the garage roof shows the wear and tear that's occurred to the three-tab shingles, as well as some white spots of invasive lichen growth. It's time for a new roof!

The Property Is Protected
Before the teardown begins, the crew carefully lays down large tarps and boards to shield the homeowner's property from falling debris and to make the cleanup process faster and more efficient.

The Old Shingles Come Off
The crew carefully strips the old shingles off of the roof, revealing the layer of plywood underneath. This is called the roof sheathing.

Bad Plywood Is Removed
As the structural foundation of the roof, the sheathing must be in tip-top shape. Any parts found with damage like rot or mold - such as these pieces here - are promptly removed.

New Plywood Is Installed
Strong new 1/2" CDX plywood replaces the damaged old sheathing, precisely cut to fit perfectly into place of the previous framework.

Seams Are Taped & Underlayment Is Installed
After all of the sheathing is securely nailed into place, a layer of underlayment is applied to the entire surface. This is a thin, waterproof material that acts as a barrier between the sheathing and harsh elements like wind, rain, snow, and ice.

New Shingles Are Installed
Next, it's time to start installing the new IKO Dynasty shingles. These shingles are premium-laminated and architectural - a heavyweight, longer-lasting, and more aesthetically pleasing choice than the three-tab shingles that were previously installed.

After: Back View
After a couple of final touches, like installing a ridge vent and cap over the garage and securing the flashing around pipes and skylights, the new roofs are complete!

After: Front View
The roof's on Candice's garage and backside addition are now strong, beautiful, and built to last!
