The Roof Before
Here's a look at Brian's roof before the replacement. A beautiful winter day is a perfect time for a roof renovation! Click through to see the amazing transformation.

Before:
Before we get to the teardown, this is a closer look at the three-tab shingles that made up the old roof. While three-tab shingles are an economical choice that were quite popular in the 20th century, they are less strong and wind-resistant than other, more modern options, and have a tendency to lift, as seen here.

Before: Chimney Flashing
In addition, the chimney's flashing - thin metal around the base of the chimney that prevents water from seeping into the roof - could definitely use a touch-up. let's get to work!

The Teardown Begins
The crew kicks things off by stripping the old shingles off of the roof. Before they begin, large, heavy-duty tarps are set up across the house and landscape to ensure that the homeowner's property is protected from falling debris.

Sheathing Is Exposed
Underneath the shingles is a layer of plywood, which is called the roof sheathing. The roof sheathing is the structural foundation of the roof, and after all of the old shingles are off, the crew inspects the sheathing closely for any evidence of damage, like rot or mold, and all affected areas are removed.

Sheathing Replaced & Underlayment Is Installed
The crew replaces all necessary areas with brand-new, sturdy CDX plywood. Next, they tape up all of the seams of each plywood sheet with all-weather deck tape for extra reinforcement. After that, a layer of underlayment is installed over the entire surface. This thin, waterproof material protects the sheathing from rough elements like wind, rain, snow, and ice.

New Shingles Are Installed
With the underlayment fully in place, it's time to start installing the brand-new IKO Dynasty shingles! These shingles are premium-laminated and architectural - meaning that they are stronger, heavier, more wind-resistant, and more aesthetically pleasing than three-tab shingles. Definitely the right upgrade to make!

Shingle Installation Continues & New Skylights Go On
The crew also had the pleasure of replacing Brian's old skylights with new sleek and sophisticated VELUX skylights.

Ridge Vent Is Installed
A shingle vent is installed along all of the ridges of the roof. This vent ensures proper airflow, allowing hot, humid air rising from the house a way to escape - minimizing damaging moisture buildup.

After: Chimney Flashing
Brand-new beautiful flashing is installed around the chimney and sealed with strong caulk, ensuring a watertight junction.

After: The Finished Look
After a careful final review and a meticulous cleanup of the property, the job is complete, and Brian's new roof is looking fabulous!
