The Roof Before
Here's a look at Birgit's roof before the renovation. Click through to see the cool transformation!

Before: Another Angle
Before we get started, here's another angle of the roof. As you can see, the shingles are worn and made of a weaker three-tab style. Time to upgrade to something stronger and more durable! Let's get to work!

Old Shingles Removed & Decking Exposed
The crew starts by stripping off the old shingles, exposing the plywood layer beneath. This layer, known as the roof decking, serves as the structural foundation of the roof. Since the condition of the decking is crucial, the crew carefully inspects it for any signs of damage, such as rot or mold.

New Decking Is Installed
Any damaged parts of the decking are removed and replaced with fresh new CDX plywood, ensuring a solid foundation for the new roof.

Underlayment Is Installed
Next, a layer of underlayment is installed over the entire decking. This thin, water-resistant material protects the decking from harsh elements like rain, wind, or snow.

New Shingles Are Installed
After the underlayment is fully applied, it's time to start installing the new premium-laminated IKO Dynasty shingles. Known for their durability and style, these shingles come in a variety of colors, and Birgit has selected the beautiful Summit Gray shade for her new roof.

Low-Sloping Roof Base Is Installed
This section of Birgit's roof is considered "low-sloping," meaning its gentle pitch isn't suitable for traditional shingles. Instead, a specialized Polyglass Elastoflex membrane is used. The crew starts by installing the base layer, which serves as the underlayment for this part of the roof.

Cap Installed & Shingles Are Done
The top layer of the Polyglass Elastoflex membrane, known as the "cap," is installed, completing the low-sloping section of the roof. Meanwhile, the shingles are fully installed on all other parts of the roof, ensuring the entire structure is protected and looks great.

New Flashing for the Chimney
New flashing made of durable lead metal is installed around the base of the chimney where it meets the roof. This flashing acts as a barrier, preventing water from seeping into vulnerable joints and crevices, ensuring the roof remains watertight.
