The Roof Before
Here's a look at Ed and Kathy's roof before the renovation. Click through to see the awesome transformation!

Before: Tree Lichen
This overhanging pine tree wasn't doing Ed and Kathy's roof any favors. That white growth creeping out? It's pine lichen - an algae-like plant that traps moisture and speeds up shingle deterioration. Time to say goodbye to the old roof and hello to a brand-new one!

Old Shingles Are Removed
First, the crew gets to work stripping off the old shingles. This reveals the layer of plywood underneath, which is called the roof decking. As the structural foundation of the roof, it's crucial that every part of the decking is in tip-top shape. After all of the shingles are removed, the crew closely inspects the decking for any signs of damage, like rot or mold.

Rafters Are Sprayed
The crew determined that most of Ed and Kathy's decking needed replacement. Before installing the new wood, they removed the affected sections and treated the exposed rafters with a specialized mold repellant, ensuring long-term protection for the new decking.

New Decking Is Installed
A brand-new layer of decking is installed using high-quality CDX plywood. Each sheet is precisely measured, expertly fitted, and securely nailed into place, creating a strong framework for the new roof.

Seams Are Taped
For added reinforcement, the crew meticulously tapes all plywood seams with ultra-durable Sealaron XT deck tape, ensuring maximum protection against moisture and enhancing the roof's longevity.

Underlayment Is Installed
Next, the crew applies a layer of waterproof synthetic felt underlayment across the entire surface. This protective barrier shields the decking from harsh elements like rain, snow, and ice, ensuring long-term durability.

New Shingles Are Installed
Now it's time for the exciting part - installing the brand-new shingles! Brown Roofing uses IKO Dynasty premium laminated shingles for all of our roof renovations backed by our 50-year warranty. Ed and Kathy have chosen the stunning Driftshake shade for their new roof.

Ridge Vent Is Installed
A vent is installed along the ridge of the roof to ensure proper airflow. This vent allows hot, moist air from inside the house to escape, preventing moisture buildup and helping to maintain a dry, healthy roof.

The Finished Product
After a few finishing touches, such as installing shingles over the ridge vent and securing flashing around the vents and skylights, Ed and Kathy's new roof is complete and looking fantastic!
