The Roof Before
Here's a look at William's roof before the renovation. Even from a distance, the discoloration from algae growth very visible. Click through to see the incredible transformation!

Old Shingles Removed
The crew begins by carefully removing the old shingles, revealing the roof's structural framework, known as the decking. William's roof had wood slats, or planks, for decking - a once-popular choice but now outdated. Modern standards favor solid decking materials like plywood or OSB for their superior strength and stability, especially under heavy loads like snow.

New Decking Is Installed
Once all the old shingles are removed, the crew installs solid plywood sheets over the existing planks, creating a strong and stable decking for the new shingles.

Seams Taped & Underlayment Applied
The crew reinforces the new decking by sealing the seams of each plywood sheet with heavy-duty, all-weather deck tape. Then, they apply a layer of underlayment. This is a thin, waterproof barrier that shields the decking from rain, snow, and ice.

New Shingles Go On
With the underlayment fully in place, it's time for the most exciting step...installing the new shingles! Brown Roofing trusts IKO Dynasty premium-laminated shingles for their unmatched durability and curb appeal. William chose Granite Black, the most popular color in IKO's lineup.

Ridge Vent Is Installed
A vent is installed along the ridges of the roof. This vent ensures proper airflow, allowing hot, moist air that rises from the house a way to escape and prevent condensation buildup.

New Cricket Installed
Ignore the snow starting to accumulate - the crew has just finished installing a new chimney cricket for William! This small, triangular structure directs water away from the chimney, preventing leaks and protecting the roof from water damage.

The Finished Product
With a few final touches - shingles over the ridge vent and securing all flashing - William's new roof is complete! And just in time. With its reinforced decking and premium-quality shingles, this roof is built to handle whatever winter throws its way!
