Before: Weathered Exterior
Kay's chimney was definitely in rough shape after years of exposure to harsh weather and extreme temperatures.

Before: Crooked
Additionally, in the attic, the chimney's brickwork was noticeably crooked. The mortar had shifted, leaving the chimney leaning and misaligned.

The Deconstruction Begins
The masons begin by carefully removing the old bricks from the top of the chimney. As they are taken out, the bricks crumble easily due to their age, and the flue is also in poor condition.

Chimney Is Completely Torn Down
The crew continues dismantling the chimney, working their way down to the bottom. They remove all of the old flues, which are heavily soiled and covered in soot.

Starting at the Bottom
Once the old chimney is completely removed, the crew begins constructing the new one. With expert craftsmanship, they carefully measure and angle each brick, securing them with strong mortar to build a sturdy, reliable chimney.

Stacking Bricks
Using string lines to ensure precise measurements, the masons continue their meticulous work, carefully laying each brick to construct the new chimney, ensuring it is perfectly straight and stable from start to finish.

Crown & Flues Installed
The crew installs the flues inside the brick structure and then adds a chimney crown at the top. This crown covers the top opening of the chimney and prevents water from getting inside. the sides of the chimney are also sealed with deck tape to ensure durability.

Chimney Cap Is Installed
Next, a cap is placed at the very top. This metal cover helps keep debris and small animals from entering the chimney. The chimney is now complete for the time being. Once the roof installation is finished, the final step will be to add flashing around the base of the chimney where it meets the roof.

Complete Chimney with Flashing
Now that the roof is installed, it's time to install the flashing. This thin metal layer ensures that water won't seep into the joints where the chimney meets the roof, directing it away instead. With the flashing in place, the brand-new chimney is now fully complete, standing strong and straight for many years ahead!
