The Roof Before
Here's how Mary's roof looked before the renovation. Click through to see the amazing transformation!

Preparing for the Teardown
Before the crew starts the teardown, they hang up large tarps along the edges of the roof and also lay some down across the yard to ensure the homeowner's property is fully protected. In addition, this makes the cleanup process more efficient.

The Teardown Starts
Underneath the old shingles is a layer of plywood called the sheathing. This is the structural foundation of the roof. Mary's house has a style of sheathing called "tongue and groove."

New Plywood Is Installed
Any sections of the sheathing found with damage, such as rot or mold, are promptly removed and replaced with brand-new 1/2" CDX plywood, cut precisely to fit and securely nailed into place.

Underlayment Is Installed
A thin layer of water-resistant material is installed over top of the sheathing. This is called the underlayment, and it protects the plywood foundation from harsh elements like rain, snow, and ice.

Taping Up the Drip Edge Flashing
A thin metal flashing called drip edge is installed to the edges of the roof. This metal barrier prevents water from seeping into the sides of the roof, directing it away from the fascia and towards the gutters.

New Shingles Are Installed
Now it's time to install the new shingles! To beautifully complement her white siding and beige accents, Mary has selected the beautiful Brownstone shade of IKO Dynasty premium-laminated shingles. These heavyweight shingles are proudly backed by our 50-year warranty.

New Flashing Is Installed on Chimney
A new flashing is installed on the side of the chimney where it meets the roof. Much like the drip edge, this thin metal prevents water from seeping into the junction.

The Roof After
After a couple of finishing touches, like installing a ridge vent to support optimal air circulation and a ridge cap to ensure a seamless finish, Mary's new roof is complete!

Built to Last
Beautiful and strong, this roof will keep Mary and her family safe and dry for decades to come.
