The Roof Before
Here is what Giovannii's roof looked like before the renovation. Click through to see the transformation!

Before: Roof Algae
Here's a closer look at Giovannii's old roof, revealing the extent of the damage. The dark streaks on the shingles are caused by roof algae, a clear sign of moisture damage that has built up over the years. Time for a brand-new roof!

Protecting the Property
Before our crew starts the teardown process, they lay large tarps around the property to ensure that is protected from any falling debris. In addition, this makes the cleanup process a bit speedier.

The Teardown Begins
With the tarps in place, the crew begins to carefully strip the old shingles off of the roof. This reveals the layer of plywood underneath, which is called the roof sheathing.

New Sheathing Is Installed
As the structural foundation of the roof, it's important that the sheathing shows no signs of damage, like moisture, rot, or mold. The experts determined that all of the sheathing on Giovannii's roof needed to be replaced. After receiving the go-ahead from her, the crew proceeded to remove and replace the entire sheathing with brand-new, strong 1/2" sheets of CDX plywood.

Underlayment Is Installed
With the new sheathing securely in place, it's time to protect it with a layer of underlayment. This thin, water-resistant membrane acts as a barrier, shielding the sheathing from harmful elements like rain, wind, snow, and ice.

SBS Roof Is Installed
Two sections of Giovannii's roof had a low slope, also known as flat sections. According to current building codes, shingles can't be installed on these areas, so instead, a specialized SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene) roof is adhered. The SBS system consists of two layers: the base layer, which is installed first, serves as the underlayment for these sections.

SBS Roof Is Completed
The SBS cap is then adhered on top of the base, completing the installation of the flat roof sections with a clean, polished finish.

New Shingles Are Installed
New shingles are installed on the rest of the roof, with Giovannii choosing the stunning Summit Gray shade from the premium IKO Dynasty collection. This top-of-the-line, laminated architectural shingle comes with Brown Roofing's 50-year warranty, ensuring lasting beauty and durability.

The Roof After
With a few final touches, including new flashing on the chimney and roof pipes, plus the installation of a ridge vent to ensure proper airflow, Giovannii's new roof is complete and looking fantastic!
