Before: Algae Growth
Take a look at Peter's roof before the transformation. Those long, dark stains are actually algae, caused by moisture and debris buildup, which can lead to serious shingle degradation. Click through to see the amazing transformation!

Old Shingles Are Removed
The first step is to carefully strip off the old shingles. This reveals the plywood layer underneath, which is called the roof decking. The roof decking serves as the structural foundation of the roof.

Bad Plywood Removed
Every part of the decking must be in tip-top shape. The crew inspects the decking closely for any signs of rot, decay, or mold, and any affected areas - like this piece here - are removed.

New Plywood Is Installed
Fresh, heavy-duty CDX plywood is carefully fitted and securely nailed into place to replace the damaged areas. Each sheet is numbered for easy tracking, allowing us to keep the homeowners informed on how many sheets were required.

Seams Taped & Underlayment Applied
For added reinforcement, each sheet is sealed with all-weather Sealoron XT deck tape. Afterward, a layer of underlayment is applied across the entire surface. This thin, water-resistant barrier provides essential protection for the decking, guarding it against harsh elements like rain, snow, and ice.

New Shingles Are Installed
With the underlayment fully in place, it's time to start installing the new shingles. For this project, we're using IKO Dynasty shingles - premium-laminated, architectural shingles known for their exceptional strength and stunning beauty. IKO Dynasty offers a wide range of colors, and Peter has chosen the sleek and sophisticated Frostone Gray for his new roof.

Ridge Vent Is Installed
A ridge vent is installed at the peak of the roof to ensure proper airflow, allowing warm, moist air that rises from inside the house a way to escape - greatly reducing condensation buildup.

New Flashing on Chimney
New flashing is installed around the base of the chimney where it meets the roof. This durable metal barrier helps direct water away from vulnerable joints and crevices, preventing leaks and water damage.

The New Roof
After a few final touches, such as installing a seamless ridge cap over the ridge vent and adding flashing around the pipe vents, Peter's new roof is ready to shine!
