The Roof Before
Here's a look at Melissa's roof before the upgrade. Click through to see the incredible transformation!

Before: Fallen Shingles
Here's a closer look at the area where the top layer of asphalt shingles have fallen off of the roof, exposing old, weathered wooden shingles. No doubt - it's time for an update!

Before: Flat Roof
Melissa's garage has a flat roof, which requires a specialized polyester roofing system instead of traditional shingles used on steeper slopes. As you can see, moss and lichen have started to take over, and the edges are lifting due to wear and moisture damage. No worries - we're replacing this section too. Let's get to work!

Old Shingles & Shake Are Removed
Our crew begins by carefully stripping away the old shingles. This roof is unique in that asphalt shingles were installed over old wooden shake shingles - likely an attempt to extend its lifespan without a full replacement. Unfortunately, this approach often causes more harm than good, as underlying issues remain hidden and worsen over time.

New Decking Is Installed
With the old wooden shake shingles fully removed, the crew installs a brand-new foundation using sturdy plywood sheets. This roof decking provides a solid, reliable base for the new shingles, ensuring long-lasting durability.

Underlayment Is Applied
With the decking securely in place, the crew applies a layer of underlayment. This thin, water-resistant barrier adds an extra level of protection, shielding the decking from rain, snow, and ice.

Flat Roof Underlayment Is Applied
The garage's flat roof receives its own specialized underlayment: a durable Polyglass Elastoflex base designed for superior waterproofing and longevity.

New Shingles Are Installed
Once the underlayment is securely in place, it's time for the exciting part - installing the brand new shingles! Our crew uses IKO Dynasty premium-laminated shingles, and Melissa has chosen the sleek and stylish Summit Gray for her new roof.

Flat Roof Cap Is Installed
Additionally, the top layer of the flat roofing system, known as the cap, is firmly adhered to the top of the flat roof, ensuring a secure and durable finish.

The Roof After
After adding the finishing touches, such as installing flashing on the joints, the new roof is all set and ready to go!
