Photo Album: Durability Meets Style in Darien, CT Roof Overhaul

Stephen from Darien reached out to Brown Roofing for a new roof, knowing that his 20-year-old roof, though still in good shape, was due for an upgrade. He wanted top-tier materials that would stand the test of time. Working closely with Inspector Chase, Stephen developed the perfect plan for his roof and shed. Project Manager Bill and his expert crew took it from there, installing new decking on the shed, premium IKO Dynasty shingles on the house, and a high-quality synthetic rubber roof on the low-sloping section. Before: Low-Sloping Roof

The back of Stephen's roof had a low slope, so it featured a synthetic rubber membrane. Stephen decided it was time to replace it with our high-quality materials.

Before: Shed

Stephen also had a shed with a roof that needed replacing. Situated in a shaded, forested area, moss had begun to grow on the shingles. Time to get to work and restore both roofs!

Old Shingles Are Removed

The crew starts by stripping off the old shingles, exposing the plywood underneath, known as the roof decking. This decking serves as the framework for the roof, and once the shingles are removed, the crew carefully inspects it for any signs of rot, decay, or mold.

New Plywood Is Installed

Any damaged plywood is promptly removed and replaced. Fortunately, no plywood needed replacing on the house roof. However, the shed's decking was beyond repair and required a full replacement. No problem! The crew carefully cuts and fits the new plywood with expert precision to ensure a solid foundation.

Seams Taped & Underlayment Applied

To reinforce the decking, the crew tapes all the seams with heavy-duty Sealoron XT deck tape. Next, the underlayment goes on. This thin, durable layer shields the decking from the elements. A specialized Ice & Water Shield underlayment is carefully applied to the roof edges and valleys, areas most prone to water accumulation, ensuring added protection.

New Low-Sloping Roof Is Installed

For the low-sloping roof, two layers of synthetic rubber are used: the base layer, which is already in place, and the cap layer, which will be applied on top. The base provides essential protection, while the black cap will finish off the roofing system for a durable, smooth surface.

New Shingles Are Installed

With the underlayment in place, the crew begins installing the new IKO Dynasty premium-laminated shingles. These top-tier shingles are available in a range of sleek colors, and Stephen chose the elegant Summit Gray for his roof, adding both style and durability to his home.

The Roof Is Complete

After a few final touches - adding a ridge vent, ridge shingles, and flashing around the chimney and pipe vents - Stephen's new roof is complete! His home is now protected with a sturdy, beautiful roof that will stand the test of time.

The Shed's Roof Is Also Complete

Of course, we can't forget the shed! Its roof is finished too, with all the same high-quality materials and attention to detail as the house roof. Now, both the house and shed are in top shape, looking great and ready to handle whatever nature throws their way!
