Roof Before: Stains & Lichen
The worn roof displayed signs of damage, with discolored shingles and white spots where lichen had begun to grow. Lichen, a plant similar to algae, flourishes in moist conditions - while also helping retain moist conditions.
Old Shingles Are Removed
The crew starts the renovation by tearing off the old shingles, exposing the plywood beneath known as the roof decking. The decking serves as the roof's structural foundation, and the crew inspects it for any signs of rot, decay, or mold. Any damaged sections are removed and replaced.
Plywood Seams Are Taped
Once the new plywood sheets are installed, the seams are sealed with heavy-duty SealoronXT deck tape. This reinforces the decking, ensuring it is stronger than ever. Next, a layer of ice and water shield, also known as underlayment, is applied to the decking.
Underlayment Is Fully Applied
The underlayment is carefully applied across the entire decking to provide full protection against rain, snow, and ice. Once the underlayment is fully in place, the shingles can be installed.
New Shingles Are Installed
The new shingles are then installed on the roof. These IKO Dynasty premium laminate shingles are crafted for durability and offered in a variety of elegant shades. Joanne has chosen Granite Black, one of the most popular colors.
