Permits Permits Permits
The word permit often gets thrown around when talking about constriction or renovation projects. This is because it is important to inform your town of any major changes to your property or home. It is also a way to regulate the work that is done on a property, making sure that the workers and final product follow the proper health and safety regulations. When it comes to roofing there are a few permits that need to be pulled, this is also dependent on the town where the work is being done. In most cases a general building permit or minor building permit is all that is needed. Some towns do require more paperwork to be done and it can be confusing which is why we always take care of this ourselves. If you plan on leaving the dumpster on the street due to a lack of room, a permit also needs to be pulled for that. Permits are also generally only good per scope of work. What does this mean? Well if you wanted to have your roof replaced and your chimney rebuilt then you would need a permit for the roof and a permit for the chimney.
Once the permit is opened and approved we can start our work and once the entire project is completed the permit will typically be closed within the following few days. A few things are needed when it comes to closing permits, first, you need photos of each stage of the job. What does that mean? You need a photo of the Ice and Water, deck tape, and synthetic underlayment. You need photos of the rake and drip metals installed. You also need photos of the shingles and flashings correctly installed. Depending on the town an inspection is even needed to close out the permit.
It is incredibly important to open and close a permit properly, if you do major work without pulling a permit there can be major repercussions, not just legally. Due to all of these factors and the fact that every town has a similar yet different process when it comes to permits, we take care of this whole process so this project can go as seamlessly and smoothly as possible.
